Tour 2014

Attendees:- Chris, Clive, Jon, David, Sid, Hein, Martin, Joe M., Imdad, Chomo, Keith.
A well attended meeting that with an agenda available & kept in order by Chris moved the decisions along very quickly.
The results of these decisions will be sent to Top Order Tours to arrange the tour, so there may be some minor changes if they see fit.
1/ Dates confirmed:- June 27 till July 11 2014. A couple of potential tourists have graduations on the 28th, but it was felt that if necessary they could miss maybe the 1st game & travel a day or so later.
2/ Location:- will be in Somerset we will be requesting a game in Bridgetown & maybe one in Porlock if possible.
3/ Accommodation:- we will be asking for Inn/Pub B & B type. All in 1 facility if possible or 2 adjacent properties. Currently we have 12 confirmed members travelling from Winnipeg plus 5 partners with 1 & possible 2 joining us in the UK for the duration & a couple more for portions of the tour.
It is assumed that we will be charged for the 2 weeks even if we take a couple of days off to travel.
4/ Number & types of Games:-  Suggestion is that we play 2- 40 over games over the 1st weekend take 2 or 3 days off. Play 2 – 20 over games in the week. Another couple of 40 over weekend games.  Then a couple more 20 over games in the following week.
This will give ample rest time & a chance to travel.
5/ Bus:- we will be looking at a bus with a driver for the duration.
Other decisions made:-  Jon to be Tour Manager & Equipment Manager.
Captain T.B.D. later.
Keith & Joe M to look after presentation material i.e. Pins, Flags etc.
Keith will look at a team profile booklet.
Chris will be team Doctor & Hein team physio. will need space in equipment bags for pills etc.
Uniforms discussion looked at a 20 over coloured uniform & a 40 over white gear. Thought to be too expensive. We will go with whites with some burgundy accents on shirts & pants.
Suggestion from Joe that we all start to salt money away to make sure the credit cards don’t take too much of hit. we have 15 months to work with.
Chris will look at group air bookings from Toronto to London maybe BA or Lufthansa.
FYI train time from London to Bristol between 1h – 35  & 2 hours
Next meeting:- Friday June 28 at Chris Emery’s 7:00 PM  It was suggested that all people that are going, attend

Tour 2014 reminder

Gentlemen as of Friday afternoon we are at 9 people who have committed including at least 2 who will only be marginal players.
I am not sure of Chris’s feelings but in my opinion if we don’t get at least another 6 or 7 by early next week the tour is off.
This started off with a lot of enthusiasm & people telling us that they were definitely in but now we have less than 40% who are prepared to put their money where their mouth was.
If this does fall through I know that I for one will not put myself out again to organise a tour anywhere.
I will be going to the UK in the next 12 – 24 months anyway so the tour falling through will not disrupt my plans for seeing some cricket & sampling some of the UK’s better beers, but I would have enjoyed it more if  I were to go there with a group of friends.
It seems that a polite reminder has fallen on many deaf ears so we must try the profane……
EITHER SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT

Looking at the squad that Cosmos put out for this game it was obvious that they were bound & determined to reclaim the trophy after 2 losses. A side with probably the oldest player being younger than anyone on the Taverner squad. A side including at least 3 players who are at the junior international […]

Bragging Bat – Wednesday, Apr 3

Wednesday sees the first of the 2013 series get underway at BCCC at 6pm. All Taverners are encouraged to attend – u turn up ready to play and you will get a spot somehow. Word has it that cosmos are pissed that they lost the last game and we are the proud owners of the ‘bat’ and are determined to rigrit from our grasp…

Pre match festivities will begin at Duckys for the pregame meal at 5pm for those able to make it.

Taverner AGM

Just a reminder that the Taverner AGM will be held at Chris Emery’s place on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 7pm

The Secretary/Treasurer has forwarded an email with all the relevant info so if you haven’t read it check your email inbox.

Don’t forget – if you are not there you could possibly be voted into a position that you do not want…even if you are there that could still happen!!

March 27 practice at the Fox…

A little smaller group this week but a lot of discussion. At the north end of the table the discussion was about  the NHL playoff structure, I was involved but frankly my dear I don’t give a damn. At the south end apparently the talk went from strategy to masturbation by what path I have no idea & I have no clue if any resolution was proposed..
More general discussion concerned the social activities of the club with a motion to be presented at the AGM that we fund the 4 (count them) BBQ’s out of the general fees & that beer post game be $3.00 agreed except Phil who wants $4.50 on the basis if he is not happy why should anyone else be.
It was at this time that Keith J offered to host a Passover Seder dinner for the team next year this will occur sometime between April 15 & 21st. 2014. This brought up the idea of other religious festivals but being a pretty sacrilegious group none were identified except a definite No No to Ramadan as we are not physically in shape for a fast. It eventually came around to maybe resurrecting an old idea from the early Taverners a “Progressive Dinner”.
We finally settled how Irfan’s name is correctly spelled but only after the group elected him captain for the Brandon trip, a decision he vigorously opposed.
Next week it is the Bragging Bat on Wednesday April 3 we will be meeting at Ducky’s at 5:00 but we must be at BCCC & ready to play by 6:00. The team was decided at the meeting so be there whether you have been informed or not, there are no excuses.
On Saturday April 6 we will be playing 2 games in Brandon, Karan will be trying to arrange that we play the 1st 2 on the schedule so that we can enjoy a social gathering after & still get back to Winnipeg at a reasonable hour.
