Match report Taverners vs Golden Boys

So a big shake up to the Taverners was needed (after 0-6 start) . So new Skipper David , cut the Dead Weight
And brought in the heavy hitters . Karran , Keith ,  with Chris , David , Sid and Ali . Losing the toss again Taverners once again battered first . Solid batting by everyone with partnerships of 65 , 49 and 65 put a massive total of 179 on the board . The skipper not wanting to take the foot of the throat opened the bowling with Keith and Karran . This produced the desired wickets needed for victory . There first pair scored a miserable 56 . With Karran and James having plenty of overs left the other team didn’t stand a chance . Notable fielding David ducking and jumping to get out he way of the ball . Keith taking 2 wickets in an over . Only 14 wides .They scored 126 .  Then off to the bar to celebrate and talk about the great victory and how useless the rest of the Taverners have been .

To add to Sid’s report, there was a genuine look of bewilderment on the
umpire’s (Kallu) face when opening strike bowler KJ sauntered (more like a
slow stroll) in to deliver his first ball of the first over, causing him
(the umpire) to call dead ball and started laughing.   I guess we should
have updated the umpire as to our indoor training regime.

Match report Taverners vs Five Rivers

The day started for the captain in the morning when he read an e-mail from Sid at 3.30 in the morning saying that he was sick. Was he really sick and woke up at 3.30am and wrote the e-mail or did he just return home from a great night out at 3.30 in the morning? Garvin stepped up to replace the sick player. Then, at about 12.30pm, I received a call from Martin inquiring about the game – he wanted to come watch the game and go for a beer with the guys. As my ankle is still an issue, I ordered Martin to come out and play the game. When I got to the gym, I came across another taverner who was really sick and wanted to sit out. So, I had to step in for Rene.

The captain lost the toss and we were sent in to bat. The first pair of Chris(23) and Chomo(20) scored a total of 43 runs. The second pair of David(19) and Martin(21) scored a total of 40 runs. The third pair of Nigel(13) and Garvin(22) scored a total of 35 runs. There were 34 extras. One bowler bowled 14 wides in an over. The Taverners total was 152 runs. This is the first game that we scored over 150 runs this season. So, we (I) thought we could defend this total. We were wrong once again and lost by 2 runs. Taverner’s bowing figures were, Chomo – 4 overs 2 wickets for 38 runs, David – 4 overs 1 wicket for 42 runs, Martin – 4 overs none for 50 runs, Garvin – 4 overs 1 wicket for 25 runs, Nigel – 2 overs none for 21 runs.

As usual, we gathered at the Cambridge and enjoyed few cold beers. Six down and one to go. Hope that this will be the lucky seventh.
